Core Components of the Service
Venango County Drug and Alcohol Program provides school and community-based Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drugs (ATOD) prevention and educational services. These programs are designed to reduce individual and environmental risk factors and to increase protective factors.

On Applebee Pond is a research-based curriculum consisting of puppet scripts that focus on self-esteem, drug and alcohol information, and social skills. Student mentors from the high school are trained and present the program to elementary students. The program is available as requested by the local school districts.
The Prevention Program offers presentations and community activities for the purpose of increasing public awareness about problem and compulsive gambling. Programs include:
- Clean Break (grades 9-12)
- Gambling Away the Golden Years (older adults)
- In Search for Balance (older adults)
- Wanna Bet (grades 3-8)
- We Know Better (grades 4-9)
- Stacked Deck (grades 9-12)
- Know Limits (grades 7-9)
Intervention for Nicotine Dependence: Education, Prevention, and Tobacco Health (INDEPTH)
INDEPTH is a new, convenient alternative to suspension or citation that helps schools and communities address the teen vaping problem in a more supportive way. The curriculum includes all nicotine products.
The prevention program offers outreach services to individuals with a high risk for contracting communicable diseases resulting from substance abuse and injection drug use. The purpose of this outreach is to inform and then encourage healthy decision making, including the decision to enter treatment.
Project Alert is an evidence-based program that addresses the pro-drug mindset of today's teens and effectively increases their likelihood to remain drug-free. The program is available as requested by the local school districts.
Strengthening Families 10-14
Strengthening Families 10-14 is an evidence-based program for families designed to help prepare families for the transition into the teenage years. It is an interactive program that includes fun projects and activities to help reinforce the existing relationship with your 10-14 old youth. The program consists of seven weekly sessions that include meals, family, child, and parent sessions.
Too Good for Drugs
Too Good for Drugs is an evidence-based prevention program designed to reduce risk factors and enhance protective factors related to alcohol, tobacco, and other drug use among students. The curriculum is designed to develop five essential life skills:
- Goal setting
- Decision making
- Bonding with pro-social others
- Identifying and managing emotions
- Communicating effectively
This program is currently offered to the fifth graders in the local school districts.
