Mental health services for adults are based upon the “Recovery Philosophy” which holds:

Recovery is a self determined and holistic journey that people undertake to heal and grow.  Recovery is facilitated by relationships and environments that provide hope, empowerment, choices and opportunities that promote people reaching their full potential as individuals and community members.


Community Based Adult Mental Health Services Include the following:

  • Crisis Intervention:  
    Immediate Crisis intervention and referral to appropriate services and supports.
  • Inpatient Psychiatric Hospitalization:
    Safety, crisis stabilization and psychiatric treatment in a secure hospital setting.
  • Partial Hospitalization:
    Group therapy day treatment offered three (3) days per week to provide safety and prevent crisis.
  • Social Drop in Center:
    Provides activities, support and information in a relaxed setting with others recovering from mental illness.
  • Supported Employment:
    Provides a range of supported vocational options for individuals who are able to work.
  • Mental Health Warm Line:
    Offers confidential peer-to-peer free telephone support for individuals recovering from mental illness by trained peers.
  • Peer Support Services:
    Provides one-on-one coaching, support and information offered by a certified peer specialist.
  • Psycho-educational and Support Groups:
    Includes Illness Management & Recovery and Depression/BiPolar Support Alliance.
  • Mobile Medication Services:
    Assists individuals achieve and maintain mental health stability by ensuring that psychiatric medications are taken as prescribed.
  • Outpatient Mental Health Service:
    Includes a range of outpatient services to include psychiatric evaluation and treatment and individual and group counseling.
  • Case Management Services:
    Includes assessment, linkage to needed services, service monitoring, and advocacy.
  • Mobile and Site Based Psychiatric Rehabilitation:
    Provides skill building in a one-to-one or group setting to help individuals gain or restore daily functioning at home, in the community, or at work.
  • Home and Community Habilitation:
    Offers one-to-one support in the home and community to individuals living independently.
  • Transitions Program:
    Provides intensive, team delivered services for young adults with a history of system involvement (i.e., MH, CYS, JPO, D&A)
  • Supported Housing:
    Supports individuals to acquire and maintain safe, affordable housing in the most independent setting possible.  Settings include enhanced personal care, Fairweather Lodge/group settings, independent living, and emergency/homeless housing.
  • VTEC: (Venango Temporary Emergency County Housing)
    Emergency short team shelter for homeless individuals who have a mental illness.
  • CSP - Community Support Group
    A coalition of Mental Health consumers, family members, and working together to promote mental health recovery, fight stigma and advocate for consumer rights.

Additional longer term mental health residential treatment programs are available for individuals who need additional support. 

These services may include the following:

  • Residential Treatment Facility for Adults:
    Provides structured residential treatment and support for 30 to 90 days.
  • Long Term Structured Residential Program:
    Provides structured residential treatment for an extended period.
  • State Facility Hospitalization:
    The most intensive service in the Mental Health continuum.  This involves long term inpatient hospitalization for treatment and stabilization.
